Can you weld a 4 pin Diff?

Dont laugh or shout, its just a curious question, but would it be possible to weld a salisbury diff , just like welding a normal diff? Or is it not possible.

Ahh i knew id get shouted at! Still not sure if this is possible?? Does the inside look like a regular diff? Weld up the planet gears and it will still work?

A welded 2 pin should be well strong enough but my rover 4pin is the same design as a 2 pin but with a machined 2 part center and 4 pins instead of 2......

Well ive plans to build a challenge truck instead of using my daily driver! So a welded 4 pin salisbury axle might be the way forward! Cheap and strong

better fit fiddle brakes then, as with a welded diff you will have the turning circle of the QE2.

I seem to be keeping up with the locker boys on points with open 4 pin diffs.

salisbury is generally the rear axle as salisbury front axles are rare

Fiddles on the front cropped up in conversation recently and my thoughts were that you would carry on in a straight ish line

ive seen them working in a vid
they made the car pivot on the front wheel which lead to a slide

Diff locked only helps when one wheel has a lot less traction, and thats not that often. But stops you making turns. So an obstacle that could have been negotiated with carefull steering may now be impossible. Even the centre diff locked on a rangy adds a few feet of turning circle.

Unless you fit mis-matched diffs....................RRC ratio in fornt, Old landy ration in rear so the front wheels turn faster.
