Has anybody out there lifted a disco 2?
Old Man Emu look favourite but there are other kits available for half the price.
Traditionally the air bags are to dispose of, but has anyone heard of converting to a 2" lift kit on springs and lifting the bags 2" to retain the luxury of a lift me up button?
Modified a disco 1 with fantastic results that has lasted a few years but now on last legs so fancied having a go with my disco 2.

I've had a 2" OME lift on my D2 TD5 for 6 years now and a lot of off road use plus 120,000 miles. Heavy duty air bag spacers at the rear. Handles much better than standard
No need to get longer brake or ABS lines, they are long enough. You want 265/75-16 muds to go with the lift to get you >13" of under axle clearence so you can go anywhere a defender can
I have not had caster corrected and handling is fine. Do keep an eye out on the front propshaft as the extra angle will wear it faster. Mine went so I fitted a scorpian extreme prop which has lasted very well
Only thing I would fit if they were available is longer bumpstops as the larger wheels touch the wings when the rear air bags blow

Mr Madmole,
Yep thats that then I am having OME, where did you get your Spacers for the bags, I see Ricky found the Rovertym ones.
Was hoping to cut/fit arches so my old trusty Simex's off old Disco would squeeze on. Will take your advice and try running the size you suggested first before the drastic cutting starts. Thanks for the tips on brake lines thats handy not having to fit longer ones.

My Spacers were from Mark at Discoparts. I had his original ones and crushed them so he made me some super heavy duty ones.
Sadly he is no longer trading.

Hi guys i made my own spacers ... before you say they will crush they havent. And they get hammered! Firstly i got some 2" box best to have the air bag off rearly but i had a spare one so didnt need to. cut the box section so its wide enougth to fit in the bottom ot the air bag then hear comes the hardest part not hard though. measure the hole in the axel where the air bag fits in cut that shape into your box section. drill to holes it the other side of your box section x2 and fit to axel them fit the airbags into them 2inch lift their you go. now your all thinking what about the height sensors cut a peice of aluminium plate 2" wide 3 1/2" long. then bolt to the radius arm and then fit height sensor to the plate on radius arm and its done. The airbags retain the same air pressure so no issues their. you can still use the off road button on top off your 2" lift aswell. I make this kit for £40 per set including everything you need to do the job. except the brake hoses. and the standard brake hoses arnt long enougth because i snapped one of my standard ones crossing a ditch at 1.30am in a forest and ended up with no brakes! I do strongly recomend you fit a set of goodridge stainless + 2" Hoses. I also have a center difflock kit availble alowing you to engage the center diff of a discovery 2 from your drivers seat. And also run traction control and difflock together. Any queries conact Mountainbiker617@aol.com
