Don't stop until you see the whites of their eyes! When I got mine (through them) they told me the number wasn't right, and it wasn't an MB number or anything like that. I persevered with them, and some chap in the office remembered that it was "wasn't on the computer" - they may be on microfiche. Mine was born Jan 19th 1961 - so ain't that different.
You could also sign up to the moglist and ask there, there's a bigger audience, and some quite old school people there.

Hi, I too have a mog that been off the road for years and has lost its registration plate, I want to put it back on the road but have been putting off going through the 'red tape'
However I do still have chassis plate on the bulkhead with chassis no. and the year, so im hoping DVLA will accept this to confirm its age, if not M Benz will get a phone call from me too. Will be interested to hear how you get on?
regards Mike

Just in the process of registering my 404 and I am filling in the V55/5 form from the DVLA. Anyone know what the 'type of body/vehicle' and 'wheelplan' is for a 404??
thanks Mke

right gents,
I have received the actual letter from daimler in germany today, becasue the DVla will only accept the original, but far play to MB germany fantastic service.
I'll post their contact details up when i get a chance.
quick up date...just managing the last hurdle... aparently i have to provide insurance for the vehicle even in a rolling chassis condition for the dvla to provide an age related reg and confirm a true new V5. and since it will be tax and mot exempt? just leaving a safety check from a registered mot station when i intend to drive it on the road..... fingers crossed?
On the basis of this i have now insured the truck with adrian flux for 12 months for ..............................................................................................................................................£63 all in !!!!!!!
I just have to let them know when it will be on the road and list the mods.
I hope its that simple in a few months....... can't fault adrian flux only took them 2 hours to call me back with a quote?

Fantastic news. I must get on and sort mine. It would be good to get it off the farm and out and about.
What registration class was it in the end. mine is currently a mobile crane with no crane
