V5MT1 is listed as used for the Australian market. Sometimes they have stickers on them or what engine they are bolted to helps ID them....not in this case?
I have a list of models here.....should read V5MT1-6-BGL or similar. If you have this come back to me and I should be able to tell you the vehicle it was fitted to and the year

I picked it up like this already out of the car so no plate to id it .
Was looking for any id marks on the box itself but am unable to see any, you say there should be a sticker, what part of the box would this be on?.
I think it was bolted to a Pajero but am unsure, could have been bolted to a Delica?, most of the pictures i have seen of these boxes have two levers coming out the top of the box but with this one it has two levers coming from the right side of the box and two levers coming from where the normal gear lever comes from, i do know the box i have has a flat steel plate in the bottom of the box if that helps any?.
Do these boxes normally come with a integral bellhousing?.
I can obtain another one of these boxes but this one has the two levers coming from the top of the box as normal but has the same id problem.
I know its not much but i hope it helps in id, i spent most of yesterday searching the net and the book depository and i still have no clue.

The `flat steel plate` is normal for a V5MT1.
Should be a bell housing with this....
Can you post some more pictures....especially showing the levers and where they come from

Here are the levers,
I have read that this box may have come out of a L300 van with possibly the 4g62 engine?, also the petrol boxes came with a cable clutch and the diesels came with a hydro clutch? though i could be wrong.

The L300 van, I think, had a gear change on the column and this may account for the levers.....sorry I can not add to that

All good thanks, i suspected it was from the L300 van, the vans were petrol yes?, what ratios were the petrol boxes?, were there any difference to the diesel ratios?.
Can i change the petrol t/case to the diesel box and can i fit the diesel box behind a petrol engine?, what are the pros and cons?.
Thanks again for your help bigt

Just picked out some facts from a L200 spec sheet. This applies to UK models but should help.
Petrol or diesel - both with column change
1597cc petrol or 2477cc diesel. 5 speed manual - 2wd only.
Gross weights - 2505kg for petrol or diesel.
Top speeds - 78.1 mph petrol 78.7 diesel
So from the above I would suggest that petrol or diesel used the same gearbox as the figures are so similar, but yours has a transfer box so it has come from a Mk1 delica which was a 4wd L300 van with windows.
I have noted in the past mitsubishi tend to change the ratios in the axle diffs to suit petrol/diesel/2wd/4wd
Hope all this helps - may be best to speak with a local dealer or transmission expert as you part of the worlds models may have local variations.....

Thanks bigt you have been a great help .
I had wondered if the ratios in diffs were changed to suit, i might pick up the other V5MT1 from the same place i got this one from, i think the other one came from a Pajero and would be more suitable for me as it has two levers (gear, t/case) coming from the top of the box.
I am looking at fitting this box into a Niva, the ratios are similar, but will still have to play with axle ratios and wheel sizes.
Should be plenty for the Fiat engined Niva.
Fiat 131, which is the box i am running currently.

hey nivaman
If you are after somthing a bit more light weight, the gearbox from my pajero iO (pinin) is a scaled-down pajero system with super-select transmission (5spd with 2wd/4wd/4wd center diflock/4wd center diflock + low range) designed to sit behind a 2L 4 cyl lancer motor. Hydraulic clutch that could easily have a fiat slave cylinder grafted onto it. it is all alloy so would be heaps lighter than a normal full-size transmission from a van or pajero.
....but the front prop shaft goes down thedriver side of the engine - pooh!
wonder if you could swap the driveshafts around on a lada front diff?
code on side of UMF6308-SHB

Hi Bob
I am still not sure what box i have?, either a v5mt1 or fm145, i suspect the latter.
The box i have measures 35" from front of bell housing to end of output shaft, shorter than the Lada g/box t/case at 36".
If it is a fm145?, it is all alloy with hydraulic clutch and the front prop shaft goes down the left side .
The nv242 transfer case (i think?) can be adapted easily to the output thus giving a lower low gear in the t/case.
The pajero iO box sounds good also, i am considering sas'ing the Niva so will be doing away with the Niva front diff, was looking at a front diff from a series one Pajero and from what i saw it could be adapted into the Niva easily ish.
What is the code for?.

I am also looking at either swapping the Fiat engine for a Peugeot 1.9 diesel or rebuilding the Fiat Croma engine with fuel injection.
What is the code for?.

The box will not fit a Peugeot 1.9 engine, will have to get an adapter plate made.
The measurements are from bell housing face to center of lever, twenty and one half inches (520mm, 52.1cm).
I have fitted a Fiat 131 g/box into my Niva and its not a bad conversion.

After a long search i have a (am very certain of) km145, the km145 boxes have an integral bellhousing.
Now i have some decisions to make, to keep the 131 Fiat gearbox in place or to fit the km145 box? .
