hi, guys I'm new to difflock and and after some help!
I'm looking for a front axle from a g wagen, with locker as I'm converting one (ive three) of my g's to four wheel steer, see pictures below. also if anyone has any advice opinions etc, I'd like to hear them
also I've been offered a front axle with from a 230ge, but it has a 6 bolt drive shaft/diff flange, opposed to the 8 bolt on my three 300gd's, dose anyone know if there or any other difference in these axles?
regards mick

yes very nice G, the 6 bolt is a very early G circa 79-81. G230. The diff ratios should be stamped on a plate on the axle itself. The 230 it came from must have been a Carb version and not the bosch Jet-tronic that came in later which is the 230GE I believe the 230 and 300 were the same ratios. The 240 and 280 were different again.

hi guys thanks for the nice comments
to g wizz, do you know of any other differences between the early and late 460 axles? strength wise are they the same?
would it just be a case of swapping the diff flange, or using a 6 bolt drive shaft?
just out of interest what is the standard uk diff ratio for 240 and 280 G's?
all the 300gds Ive had have been 4.9, the breaker that has the 230 axle says he cant read the plate on it, is fairly likely to be 4.9? I suppose worst case I could always swap the cwp from my original back axle.
regards mick.

got the front axle from the 230 today, courier picked it up from midland 4x4 breakers on wednesday and brought it to Ireland, very happy with it, there not great at counting though as it has a 8 bolt drive shaft flange not the 6 he said, all is good though as I wanted an 8bolt one!it has chrome swivel balls to happy days! he said he couldn't read the plate on the axle with the diff ratio on ether, I couldn't read it ether, till i took the plastic off it that was covering it from new!! what are the chances of that staying on for 20 years!! has a 4.9 diff so is the same as my front.
it was complete until they took the front axle out of it for me, they have it on e-bay at the moment,it anyone's looking for anything its a 230 ge everything available except front axle, the front axle I got from it is mint, as I said still had the plastic covering the stamped plate on it! so the rest should be in pretty good nick

I wouldn't have thought the front c/v's will last long under the back.

I wouldnt have though the 300 n/a diesel with auto box would have the power to brake a cv!!
Ive only ever heard of G cv's breaking on full lock, diff in, and more importantly the "shoe in".
maybe Im wrong?
Because I'm running 4-steer I can wind the lock stops out a bit to "help" the cv's survive, and at the end of the day If I get greedy with the power or the lock, there are uprated ones available

On monday I towed the flat bed trailer with about 1 ton loaded on it with the 300gd manual (4 speed) for a laugh and was luck to get more than 40 mph

Cheeres for that. They certainly do sound expesive, but then if they do what they claim then that is not unreasonble. Will have to point my farther that way when the CVs on the farm run about stop clicking

I've broke a front cv with a 300gd manual on 35" simex.
And we broke about 7 with the v8 in my comp motor, we tried banding them, cryo treating them all sorts the just don't live long under serious pain.
Without a set of cal off roads cv's i think your rear steer will be a short lived excercise.
