When using a fridge (Waeco, Engel) do you definitely need 2nd battery?

Am going on trip, France, Belg, Lux, Germ, Aust, Italy, Slov, Croatia. 3 and a bit weeks, stopping nights and driving every day. So would good single battery be enough?

And jump leads!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance Andy

If IF you are driving all and every day you should get away with one battery. Especially if you switch the fridge off at night or raise the temperature to about 0 deg.

If not a good battery and split charge system.

It depends on what fridge and what battery your using, and of course what temperatures you need to keep in what ambient temps.

For example, in the UK with an Engel and an Odyssey, you'll be OK if using the Engel as a fridge for the whole weekend.

In Europe in the summer you'll need to keep the temp up at around 2 or 3 degrees and still have a good battery. Although you'd probably be OK overnight.

As Mike says, better to use a split charge system and make sure you can start the car in the morning!

Andy,
Will you be travelling with others? How long do you expect to be stationary and how old is your current battery?

Hi Jon

my current battery I would assume to be original (04), we are planning to travel every day, so just stationary each night but you never know so would like the ability to stay two nights without moving as an option.

For the major part of the journey we will be traveling alone, we meet up with others for some offroading in Croatia.

Waeco compressor fridge.

Thanks Andy

1 engle 40l, 1 battery in the 90, left the fridge on at vaccine carry temps (2-8C) for 6 days by mistake and it still started!

I really like my Engel.
