just been for a drive in the wifes td4 51 plate freelander and noticed a very severe viberation under acceleration.
so i was wondering how comon is cv joint (not uj) on the front of the prop failure????
oh yes the vcu is ok the prop bearings are ok.the diff mounts are a little soft.and all the engine mounts and staibilizers are new ish.
any sugestions!!!!!

Tony,
I do all the warranty claims at a dealership and I can't recall ever doing a failed front prop in the last 3 years. Check for any weakness or splits in the rear diff mounting rubbers as these are prone to failure and could cause vibration when put under load.
This is only a suggestion as I am not a technician.

thanks steelo,
why i was thinking of a failed front prop cv was because there is evidnce of molly grease on the underside and at some point it has had a cv boot fitted over the joint(not standard).
thanks for that though.

Is it a "wobble" type vibration (ie low frequency) where the gear lever is slopping about all over, or is it a harsh white finger vibration (high frequency)?

it,s a nasty backwards and forwards movement,
so thats why i was thinking front cv on prop,as its the closest.hence causing the bacwards and forwards movement of the stick under acceleration.

Hmm, it's curious that it's happening under accelration rather than settling down then. It does sound like some sort of unbalance issue, perhaps caused by looseness (such as worn mounts).
I wonder if the prop shaft has been replaced correctly (they should be marked)?
