I know of a few people with the Portaltek disc brakes and they are very good but some of the callipers have been damaged in competition use.

I've thought about power steering but tehn I'm saviong £thousands on gym membership!"

I would like to find someone that has utilized one of the kit suggested to know if they are not only expensive but good in half. I want to use my C303 not in off road competition ( Roma traffic is an heavy competition) but for travel and so I am trying to transform a military object in a 50% civil object Laughing

I will ask Andy-T for his opinion. He fitted them to his Volvo axled Range Rover

Hi,
I have been using the Portal Tek disc brake conversion for a couple of years now and am very happy with it.
I did have some teething troubles in setting it up, finding the correct master cylinder & servo to suit.
It has transformed the brakes on my Range Rover, improving them to better than original.

My only problem so far has been in shearing off a bleed nipple when off road - I do believe that this was just one of those freak situations when a stone was trapped & forced between the wheel and caliper causing the shear.

Simply fixed from an easily sourced spare within the UK.

The road manners of the brakes is superb and I think this high quality conversion is very worthwhile.
The price is high but the benefits more than offset it.

The conversion also allowed the stubaxle to be changed from the 8 stud volvo setup to the Land Rover configuration making my wheel selection much more varied and in keeping with the overall looks of the vehicle..

I decided to fit the Mach 5 wheels with a minimum offset, keeping the axle as narrow as possible.

Regards,

Andy Thomlinson

hey andy
thanks for your reply.
When you say I have been using the Portal Tek disc brake conversion can you tell me what they supply in this conversion and if the calipers, disks and pads are made from portal teck or are rover( may be one of the range model ).
Also when you say "I have some teething troubles in setting it up, finding the correct master cylinder & servo to suit" portal teck don't give any suggestion or any part list regarding such items. Or is a DIY conversion ?
If you can let me know what kind of price have you payied for
regards mario
