I have just done an oil and filter change on my VW Bora using Halfords brand 5W40 (505.01 spec).
Anyone know who actually make the stuff for Halfords?

I use Millers XFE-PD (VW505.01) in my wifes Skoda Fabia VRS on a 10K fixed service interval.
I wasn't aware that halfords sold anything for the PD engines. They certainly didn't.
I would say that if it has the VW spec. on the can then it should be up to the job.

I fully respect the services Peter and Simon offer. I run my Suzuki on 100% difflock oils. I run VW gearbox oil on difflock stuff but when it comes to the engine oil, VW have placed extra specifications which sadly are not offered here (Yet)
On the Halfords bottle, it states 505.01 PD oil in big writing so I know VW are happy it passes their specification but Just out of interest I wonder who actually makes the stuff (different blends etc).
VW have a list of oils which pass there testing and Halfords is not there so I know it must be re-branded stuff.
My car is up to 180,000 miles running 505.01 stuff. I changed to 506.01 as I though the fully synthetic would give better protection then blew the turbo 60 miles later through very hard driving so I'm back to changing the oil every 10K with 505.01.
I always like to know more about the fluids I use that's why I asked the question.
One thing I have noticed, Castrol have dropped the fluid capacity in their bottles. All the performance stuff use 4L tubs and so when you need to buy more. I like 5 litres which is enough for the change and one top up during the 10000 miles.

Peter/Tracey will verify that my 110 is run on 100% Difflock supplied kit.
I have asked Difflock before about supplying semi-synthetic 5w40 (505.01) but have been told not at the moment.
If/when Difflock supply this spec. then I will buy, thanks for your concern DD.
The closest thing that Difflock seem to supply has this spec.:
Specifications:
* SAE 5W/40
* API SL/CF
* ACEA A3, B3, B4
* Mercedes Benz 229.1 & 229.3
* VW 502.00 and 505.00
Andy, I have read horror story's on the Briskoda forum about fully synthetic 0w30 VW506.01 (slightly less viscose than baby oil!) being used in the PD130 engine and sympathize with thee!
