This thread is just an excuse for all of us to post a pic of our pride and joy.
This is my 1963 404, still undergoing rebuild but moving under its own power now (so I can have a play )

Here's our Mog on a corner and another just before take off .
Since the last rally we've fitted a huge intercooler and custom made front bonnet to accomodate it. The difference in power is amazing compared to before!
Yesterday we finished the grueling three day 1000 dunes race in 13th place out of 24 entrants.
Pictures by Tim Ansel. Thx M8!

danie_jc,
Is that an Arrows trailer that your towing behind your UNIMOG? If so do they have overrun brakes? What are the dimensions of the load bed?
I see that your using Michelin XL tyres do you like them I used to have them on a LR 101FC and liked them a lot, much better off road than the XZL that replaced them.

Yes, It is an arrows trailer - it is braked. load bed is 8ft x 6ft (just enough room to sleep in).
The tyres are great, but have not run it on anything else for comparrision.

danie_jc,
Thank you for that information. I guess then that the tyres must add a foot either side then, so the whole trailer must be getting on for 8 foot wide. Did you manufacture the upper body work your self for camping purposes.?

The GRP part of the trailer was manufactured by the army. All the history I have (by word of mouth from previous owners) is that it was in service in Northern Ireland in the 70's but was unsure of its use. The trailer is very slightly slightly wider than the mog.

Turnip Mog now has a hydraulic pump on the front of the PTO and a PTO shaft running back through the chassis to the towing plate - this enables it to drive a Hayter trailed rotary mower and me to mow ground so steep that I dont have the balls to take the tractor on!

So ........here is the Mog doing some exteme mowing! All I need now is one of those underslung crawler boxes with the tramhandle gear change so that I can do the steep bits slower. I dont suppose anyone has one for sale at a reasonable price?

fraid it only going to get more exspensive now the yanks are after asmany as they can get there hands on
and what you called reasonbly priced when they are fetching $1800 in the states (it was on pirate and he sold them)

I did'nt realise they had got that expensive! Im afraid thats a bit rich for my taste! I will just have to mow a bit quicker than I want until I come up with a cunning plan!

I’ve recently become a Unimog owner (Since the 10th of February)
I picked the vehicle up from Gwynedd and drove it all the way back to Surrey (250 miles). It didn’t really miss a beat apart from a bit of miss firing at mid throttle and some fan belt slipping. Although the steep welsh hills were quite scary at times.
I haven’t taken the vehicle out since the drive back but I am looking forward to taking it to some pay and play days. I actually brought it to turn into a winch challenge vehicle although I am starting to have second thoughts now (Time will tell what my plans turn into)

Same here. I just found mine to be too nice a machine to chop up.
That is a tidy looking 404, cost you much?

The vehicle cost me £4100 and basically everything is standard and there (I’ve got all the canvas back and poles… Although I won’t be using them)
I’d still like to fit power steering and some larger/more aggressive tyres but currently I don’t think its right to start cutting the body up and all of that (but I am still open to ideas)

It looks really strait. Its very easy to make a winch challenge vehicle from a vehicle like that, compared with the work to make a nice vehicle like that out of a winch challenge motor! It seems to be a one way transformation, after a roll and a few tree strikes
Challenge is good way to wreck a good truck
Or so my bank account says
Nice selection of vehicles, I'm well envious
