There's some very ingenious people on here, you included! Shame you got rid of the Niva, as I'm sure yoiu'd have had a go!
Could it apply to Cruisers?

On the subject of going under water, ours is a 1.7 single point model, what else needs to be water proofed before attemting to cross the swan river? |
The sock that goes over the ram is just a prefilter to stop lots of dust and mud from getting down to the main filter. It will not filter the air properly.
If yours has a distributor you will need to seal the holes in the cap and also where the cap mounts to the body. You also need to make sure your spark leads are in good condition and make a good seal where they plug in. If any water gets into contact with the high voltage side of the ignition system the spark will short to earth and your engine will stall.

You got some hilarious reading matter at your disposal dude!
I've read that Lada Nivas are useless to drive on the road, and worse offroad.
I've used your "sound deadeners" on almost every vehicle I've owned along with all our farm machinery in the last twenty plus years and find them far superior to standard paper filters, as well as K&Ns and the like.

Who's going to do it? I'm sure it will work, provided enough air can pass. | wonder no longer.
I used this system in my old falcon ute for several years.
IMO you'd need to use both pillars in the Niva, as they can be a little on the small side for good air flow I think. Theres also a bit of work to do to close in the A pillar, as they are built a bit funny.
On my old falc, ran some hose from the top of the A pillars, back to the B pillars, and fitted louvre type vents to the outsides of the B pillars for intake. It looked quite respectable, and worked admirably.

From 4x4 Connection (safari snorkel dealer):
Q. Is there any additional filter incorporated in a Safari snorkel?
A. No, there is no additional filter in a Safari snorkel. A foam component, which appears to be a small pre-cleaner, is used on some vehicle models. It is installed inside the Safari air ram (see sketch above). It is not a pre-cleaner. It is actually a noise suppression pod, used to absorb sound waves generated by the engine. The improved filtration actually results from the Safari snorkel's air intake being above the level of the heavy, wheel generated, dust. In addition, a commercial configuration of pre cleaner assembly can be added for further protection.
I can't stop laughing either!

err - this is absolutly correct
what you are missing is that the safari snorkel connects to the standard air filter of the vehicle for filtration, there is ALSO a foam sock inside the tube of the snorkel which does act more as a sound deadener than a filter but does catch rocks etc that bouce up and enter the snorkel intake.
