|
|
|
My 710 has developed a tendency to pull to one side during braking. The trouble is, it some times pulls to the left and sometimes pulls to the right and sometimes stops straight. It can do all three on one journey. I have noticed that the pull seems strongest if the brakes haven't been used for a while, and that repeated braking can minimise it or make it go away completely. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Worth cleaning the caliper pistons? remove the pads and press the pedal and the work each piston out and clean with brake cleaning fluid?? or it could be drums?

Yes, Pinz's have drums all round, but I have had the drums off and all are clean with no oil leaks. There might be a bit of ovality on one (will have this checked) but that's about it.

Hi Dennis
Thanks. Yes. I bled the brakes last week, It sharpened them up a bit further but that just made the pulling worse - mainly to the left this week. The front left drum seems slightly oval i.e. when I adjusted it, I turned the adjusters until the wheel wouldn't turn and then backed them off until I could turn it. However, this one drum would partially turn and would then reach a high spot which stopped it again. I'm going to have it looked at. If I have time I'll do as suggested and swap the brake sets from one side to the other first to see if that confirms it. I would have thought that it would have cause some kind of rumble through the pedal, but it doesn't.
Thanks for the help.
Bryn

Just an update. I haven't swapped the drums over yet but I have found that I can adjust the problem away by making sure that the RHS front drum is adjusted so that it is quite tight whilst the LHS front drum adjusters are backed off a bit. Anyway it was good enough to get through the MoT with flying colours (hooray) even though I told the tester that the brakes might pull to the side.
The place I went for the MoT had a military Pinz on the ramps with the transmission in bits. I think it was having a new transfer box fitted.

Hi Dennis
Thanks - swapping the brake sets from one side to the other is definitely my next task.
Best wishes
Bryn
