Hi,

I’ve recently bought a 1995 Disco. There is what looks like a drain plug hole with no plug in it located in front of the bell-housing. Disco transmissions are new to me but I’m now worried that there should be a plug in this hole holding some oil in some critical part of the transmission. I’ve done about 20 miles since buying the vehicle in this condition and everything sounded okay…

I’m ordering a Haynes manual but would appreciate any advise from the forum.

Picture below shows offending hole. Engine sump at base of picture, bell-housing at top, unknown threaded hole mid picture.

Any advise appreciated…. Should there be a plug in the hole?
Confused

thats the way its ment to be , if you want you can put in a wadeing plug ,otherwise just leave it as is. theres nothing in there except for the clutch.

if i`m correct thats actually in the casting that joins the box to the engine , not the box its self.

Its a wading plug hole can get a plug for about a quid for off roading to stop muck getting in there, its all in your handbook, if you have one.

If you dont have a hand book might be well worth trying to get one as has loads of usefull info.

lindenengineering that enigne we are looking at is a 300tdi, from the rear looking forward across the clutch bellhousing towards the rear of the sump. Is there some weird off the wall engine you get in the US we dont know about ?

This is also used for the flywheel locking tool used to lock the flywheel in place when replacing the timing belt ETC.

Think lindenengineering is getting the manual mixed up with an automatic. Don't think they get manual (stick shift) Discoverys over the pond.
