Hi all,

I received a warning at the Memsie event a few weeks ago about the recovery points on my Defender. I would like to take part in the Forest drive and therefore need to address this issue.

I have been looking at the paddocks website for diff guards and steering guards etc and have seen this steering guard with integrated recovery points. Will these be sufficient of sufficient quality for BORDC events?

Cheers

Defo, cant see why not, i bought pretty much same one not so long ago with recovery eys, just with an aluminium plate, think it was about 100 bucks in total. Front diff guard is recommended, but for the forest drive you should be fine.

it will be ok to start with until you decide to get more serious. One thing with this is you will need to get a decent 2 or 3 tonne strop and shackles to act as a bridle between the two points to speed up the recovery.

What is your rear recovery point like?

I will look for strops and shackles.

The rear has a tow bar at the moment but it will need to be moved eventually as it sits quite low and I don't intend to be towing anything.

Hello all,

I'm having the same problem here, will buy a front winch bumper but not the right time just now so I thought about taking my front bumper out and build some kind of a front towbar just for the forrest event.

Am I aloud to do this?

Cheers

Hi Pedro,

For your vehicle to be road legal it needs a front bumper so best to leave it as it is.

The Forest Drive is a social Event with no need to get stuck or recovered at all.

Stew,

you could build a frame that bolts or is welded to your chassis and sits hard up against the back of the bumper and drill a hole through both and fit a swivel recovery eye?

lol Very Happy Fair enought.

Will try that for sure, just didn't know if I could replace the bumper by a bolt on front frame or a winch cradle (seen some like that Confused )

Cheers

Just tie a decent strenth strap round a solid piece of the front chassis untill you get your winch bumper
