sounds like a great idea but how much extra could the standard lump take?

surely it would be better to dump a bigger lump in there?

Depending on which engine you have remember that the G13BB engine in the Jimny is a just a differently tuned G13BB engine from a Suzuki Swift.

Therefore if you have this engine the tuning bits produced for the Swift should fit.

However be aware that Swift tuning mods are designed to improve the performance at high revs (pocket rocket!) whilst off-road you need performance at low revs.

For example see http://suzukird.com/

And you to can join the world of....

The kit here http://suzukird1.netfirms.com/62pro/catalog/pro...mp;products_id=79
claims up to 350HP from the engine (which is one hell of an uplift for an 82HP engine!!)

Why not see what our friends in Europe and the States are doing..

Instead of buying tuning kits/ turbos etc..

Why not look at engine options..

Mazda RX7

VW diesel

For example..

or a Vit 1600 16v.. Install kit from www.dgtuning.com for 435.60 euro's

Is that a Vit engine or a GV/Baleno engine? It has the distributorless ignition system and the air intake at the front. I'm not trying to be pedantic but I have a 99' Baleno engine and the EFI and ignition look to be pretty much identical to an O2 Jimny - looks like it would drop straight in with no wiring changes, just unplug the Jimny ECU and plug in the Baleno ECU (and immobiliser!).

This is a 1.6 Baleno engine. Like I said before, it looks very much the same setup as a Jimny.

Has anyone got a pic of the water hoses at the back of the cylinder head. I need to adapt the Baleno engine to RWD and the Jimny bits might do the job

Rhinoman

I assume you mean pictures of a Jimny engine.

Its very difficult to take pictures with the engine in as the wiring gets in the way.

If you want to come and have a look, let me know

Martin

I can't really see from those pics. The Baleno has a bit on the back with the pipes coming out. Being FWD the heater pipes come out at 90 degs and the main outlet comes out straight which isn't ideal. I was hoping that the GV or Jimny would have a different fitting.
Your engine looks different Martin

The "bit on the back with the pipes coming out" is another large pipe - which just pulls out and swaps if its owt like the 16v vit engine

If you have a Jimny with the G13BB and not the later M13A then find a G16B bottom end and swap it over. The heads are the same and the injectors have the same flow capacity plus you end up with all the correct piping and coil pack ignition. You don't need to swap looms etc. and there is only minor work adapting the 1.6 to fit like other 1.3 to 1.6 conversions. The Jimny ECM will cope but it would be better if you added a piggy back controller/interceptor to optimise the fuelling and ignition. The other plus is it will basically look Factory. This is probably the easiest and best value swap that will also give you more power and torque.

Up to the year 2000 they were fitted with the G13B SOHC MPI engine, after 2000 they were fitted with the M13A DOHC MPI engine.

Since 2005 they are fitted with the VVT engine (M13AA)

Not quite, they were fitted with the G13BB. The G13B is the 1.3 16v dohc fitted to the Swift GTi.

Yep sorry I should have said G13BB

Basically the early Jimnys were fitted with the SOHC engine.

Hi Guys. Mlines got in touch with me on Jimny.se as I am putting a G16B Baleno engine into my G13BB Jimbob over the bank holiday weekend.
Hopefully then I can answer the questions about the water pipes on the back of the block as I will have both engines on the floor side by side.

I do know you need to re drill the lower engine - gearbox bolt holes on the engine block as they're are different (closer together), or get an adapter plate (eblag £40 including postage).

You need the skinny bosch starter. You may have one already on your Jimny, but it's always worth a check to see.

Also I have been informed that you need to re drill one engine mount, but again till the engines are out on the deck and I measure the distance between centres with the engine mounts in place on the G16B I cannot confirm. To be honest I am hoping to get away with this for the more standard than standard look. Wink

@rhinoman:
The Baleno lump you have there... Is the sump pot at the back or front? Need to know whether I need to swap sumps and that'll mean ordering a sump gasket set. My engine is not being delivered till next weds - thursday and just want to be prepared.

TA.

I can't remember which end the sump is, I'll have a look tomorrow. There is no gasket though, just sealant.

Oh ok no sump gasket... See total newbie to Zuki engineering! Laughing
Must admit I am used to old skool cooking with fords and vauxhall / opel. Did do all my own work on my old Pajero and the one that Mrs. doc has but never needed anything as serious as an engine swap.
Gasket goo I have a-plenty of, actually there's 2 tubes of Hylomar in the glove box of the Zuki ready for any small jobs that may require it. Wink
Thanks for you info rhinoman. Be good to know if I need to change the sump over.

Baleno sump is at the front so you will have to change the sump and pick up.

Thank you Rhinoman again and CJ_Zuki. Your info is really appreciated. So changing the sump and pipe it is then. No biggie another 10 mins work.

To answer you question about the pipes on the back of the block.. This is a rather poor phone cam piccy Embarassed of the back of the G13BB between the ignition sensor on the back of the cam and to top of the bellhousing.
As you can see there are no pipes coming out from there.
The ones for the heater come out from the inlet manifold and, I believe, from the water pump.
Hope this helps.

A bit different to the Baleno then:

Yours looks like it might be similar to a 16V Vit. The Baleno has one bolt on bit that has a heater hose and a sensor and another bit that has the water outlet. You should be able to swap your bits over.
I've no idea if the oil pick up pipe will be a straight swap, the Sammy has a smaller pipe that the 1.6 which needs to be modded, the fixing bracket needs to be modded too.

Rhinoman,
Yes I guess it is the same as a 16v vit.
That's the thermostat housing and radiator top pipe connection on the back end of the block. There mine has a blanking plate and the top pipe is on the front of the inlet manifold, so I guess I am changing the inlet manifold as well then. Pity was hoping to use that.
Ah well never mind.
Again many thanks for your help in getting this all clear in my mind.

You will want to use the Jimny intake manifold with the Baleno engine and make everyone else who has done a Baleno engine conversion envy you with how much better it makes it. It resolves the cooling pipe plumbing issues. It is the simple solution that more people should be aware of if they can get hold of the Jimny intake.
