hi all, i have a good friend who owns a rental company. i buy 25L drums of diesel from him and find my 94 fourtrak smokes quite a bit.
i can't see the smoke too much during the day but at night when i look through my mirror, i can see large amounts of smog between me and the head lights of the car behind me.
do you think this is because of the mixed diesels or trouble brewing under the bonnet
there's no dyed diesel just different brands if you like,
regards kieran

not relay keyed up on fourtracks but i wouldn't say it was anything to do with the fuel.
depending on the colour of smoke it could be a number of things.
you may have:
a dirty air filter
dirty fuel filter
blocked injectors
leaky turbo seals
split or defective inter cooler pipes.
blocked inter cooler
aerated fuel (small hole in fuel pipe causing bubbles of air in fuel)

Prolly blended with kerosene , Veg oil , sump oil and anything else they can get there hands on ,, the veggie when cold will produce loads of blue smoke.....
or as described above ,, stop using it and see if it changes !

cheers, it's probably something later on the list, I've service the fourtrak recently.
when i bought it, the previous owner said it just scraped through the MOT on emissions. when i asked a friend what i could do he said, by changing the filters etc that would more than likely solve the problem.
a cold start producers a little black smoke followed by a little whitish smoke, then i don't notice much at all till it turns dark. then it looks pretty bad between me and the head lights behind me. the smog covers the road every time a put the foot down.
thanks for your advice, I'll start going down the list and see what we come up with.
regards kieran
