Hi all
If anyone can offer advice and help it would be appreciated.
I am just in the process of setting up a system, but am short of a few things.
Used heating water tank, pref insulated. Where i might find one free or to buy.
I'm in Leeds, West Yorkshire.
A local suppler of Methanol and Caustic soda.
Caustic soda i have bought for £1 for 500g but its only 98% is this any good?
Also getting hold of a free plans for the system build would be great, please don't respond if your are selling plans. grrrrrr
Also can anyone tell me are people mixing the chemicals in to the oil using a domestic water pump (which i have).
Also I have a few suppliers of used oil, but while in Tesco I though I would take a look at the cost of new oil in case I ever needed it. 97p per liter bought in a small barrel. Could this be right??
Thanks in advance for your help.
Justin

Have a look at www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum re setting up your own biodiesel processor. Have a look through their 'search' option and it will bring up advice from 'home brewers' on what's best and what to avoid etc.
Regarding methanol and caustic soda, see www.mearesolutions.co.uk, Roger Debham can probably help you with your methanol needs, not sure about the caustic soda. He also supplies filters and housings at very competitive prices.

I think i may have spoken to you on the phone earlier today. Very helpful. it was appreciated. Just awaiting a call.
I was beginning to think i had asked for methadone and not methanol it seems like a secret ingredient.
Anyway thanks again for your help.

Thanks for your reply, i have taken a look at vegetableoildiesel.co.uk in some detail but am still a little green when it comes to bio-diesel, so joining this site to talk to people who are right into it seems like a better plan.
All these sites a packed full of information, but scattered out. I spent a whole night looking at the post on this site, but still didn’t find the answer to the questions below.
Simple questions like mixing the chemicals, yes i mix them together then add them to the oil, but mixing the oil.
How long do i need to mix for, can i use a circulation pump while heating to constantly mix.
I see that people have built pressure tanks to make bio-diesel, still not 100% sure of the configuration of the pipe work.
Good god how hard is it to find an old water tank? Anyone got any idea's.
Maybe silly questions?
Cheers

Hi Eco,
I've left a message on your mobile regarding a methanol supplier.
If you've tried speaking to Roger Debman at Meare Solutions and not had any luck it's because he has been ill in hospital.
Have you had a look at the Graham Laming processor?
Do a search on the vegetableoildiesel forum for the GL processor, that may, hopefully, answer many of your questions regarding a processor.
You should definitely mix your methanol and caustic soda together before adding to the heated oil.
The oil needs to be 55 degrees, and should be mixed with the methoxide for 1 - 2 hours, alot depends on how good your processor is at mixing and agitating. Our processor has a mixer and baffles to agitate the oil and methoxide to ensure a full conversion.

Hi bio diesel-queen
Got your message today, thanks for that will give him a call when i get a minute.
Yes i have taken a look at Graham Laming processor, which is what i have based my needs on so far.
The old copper tank has become a problem, as in sourcing it, today i have been round metal scrap yards as this is where the plumber weighs them in for about £20-£25 but the scrap yard wants £50 for one.
100% profit that’s day light robbery.
Been to the council tip to see if i could see one there, but its stealing if i take one from there yard and they can't sell me anything.
So i am at a little bit of a loss, next i may been to go thought the yellow pages and ring plumbers to sell me there old water tanks before the scrap yard get there hand on them.
On a positive note i may have a supplier of the methanol thanks to you.
Also if anyone needs a 200L copper tank i found 2 today, if anyone need something this size. Unsure of what he wanted for them but if anyone is intersted, please let me know and i will give you his details. Personal use only.
Cheers

Hi Eco
I too live in Leeds, and I am just wondering how you are getting on with DIY bio production.
Hows supply of waste oil going, and have you found economic suppliers of methanol & lye nearby.
Looking at going DIY bio for myself, and would welcome your comments/experience, before I go spending my hard earned on lots of things i don't need.
Cheers
Mark
