Hi B Q hope you can help me out with this. I’ve been using Bio Diesel for about 2 years, originally from Eco Bio in Burnley Lancs with no problems but changed to another supplier in Rochdale 8 months a go and had nothing but problems with it, bad starting blocking filters after only 1000 mls or less. So I dumped them and ran the car on dino Diesel for a couple of months to clean out the fuel system and it ran fine. Went back to Eco Bio and after the second batch 0f 40 ltrs it’s started again. So my question is could there be still something in the tank contaminating the fuel and if so is there something I can use to clean out the fuel system or could it be that the cr*p I got from Rochdale has caused some damage to the fuel system.
As you can see from the photos the oil is quite clear just a small amount of sort of creamy crud in it which I assume is either soap or SPAM residue.
the pic of the bottle is the result of a water test it's now bee settling for 6 hours think I have a problem

Looks like soaps left in there, the Bio hasn't been washed properly.
I would suspect the new bio is dragging out any resudual soaps left from the bad batches.

Hi discoverydti,
I'm afraid Nat is right, it looks like the biodiesel hasn't been washed properly and has soap in it.
Have you spoken to the suppliers at Rochdale regarding your concerns over their biodiesel? The pictures of the samples, are they all of the biodiesel from Rochdale or is it what has come out of your fuel tank since you've used Rochdale then Burnleys biodiesel?
If you haven't spoken to the suppliers at Rochdale you need to. If their biodiesel isn't being washed properly they really need to know, although they should be testing EVERY batch to ensure the quality of what they are selling.
If it is soap in the biodiesel then there is a possibility that there could be soap sat in the bottom of your fuel tank. Has your Disco fuel tank got a drain plug? You need to clean out the fuel tank out, change the fuel filter and start again.
Let me know how you get on with the supplier in Rochdale. Any other help I can give, let me know.
Bev

thanks Nat and Bev you've confirmed my suspicions that it is soap, I did give the tank a good clean out before I used the Burnley supplier looks like they have problems too, am going down there with the sample and see what they say, I just wanted to confirm that it was soap before i did so, will let you know what the outcome is.
Peter

Peter I would be interested in their response too.
Just bought a test batch of 15l from the new place near me (Solstice Biofuels) and tried the water and bio in a jar shake test.
After 20 minutes my jar looks similar to your last picture. Water looks a bit more cloudy and the bio on top is brown but opaque. Good/bad/indifferent?
Anyone have any link to what this test can show?
Cheers,
Paul

Hi cartman after the test you should be able to read news print through it so I'm told biodiesel-queen will probably give you a bit more info if you need it. as regards mine went to a supplier in Burnley as I know he only makes good Bio, he tested it for me turns out that there is thinners of some description in the fuel apparently this is becoming quiet common not just in Bio but also among some independent garages selling thinned down Diesel, and has advised me that if I use an independent to smell the fuel before I put it in. I've cleaned out the fuel lines dropped the tank drained it and given it a dam good clean so I will see how it goes.

Have a look on this forum
http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?fid=10
Use the search function to see if anyone else has written anything else or made comment on the company you got your sample from.
The website is probably the best site to go for advice on anything to do with biodiesel and vegetable oil.

BQ,
Thanks for the link but nothing on that Co. there. But that is probably because they only started retailing it outside of their normal bulk suppliers a few months ago.
