My 1998, 80,000 mile Indy failed it's MOT this week on an anti roll bar rubber bush ( no problem )and a rusty brake pipe, which is unusual on a Japanese motor.
The pipe is the front to rear one and it was seriously corroded going through a bracket just before it joins the rear axle flexible pipe.
The bracket is well hidden, it's above the tube X-member on the drivers side hidden above the top suspension link bracket.
It's ******** awkward!
When I put the spanner on the fitting to disconnect the steel pipe from the flexi the pipe just collapsed where it goes through the bracket, the break and the worst corrosion was actually in the plastic clip on the bracket and impossible to see.
The MOT guy did his job well and spotted some light corrosion outside of the bracket and guessed the worst was hidden.
The other problem is, the same bracket hold the diesel pipes ( flow and return ) and they were just as bad, so I got soaked in diesel and brake fluid!
The diesel pipes were corroded for a good length as well, so I cut them off close to the tank ( drop the tank ) and connected reinforced rubber hose right down level with the front of the doors.
I've abandoned the offending bracket and cable tied the pipes tidily, and covered the brake pipe with bitumen paint!
It's one of those jobs you hate, but it's better than losing your brakes.
