A friend of mine is looking to buy an overland/expedition campervan suitable for two people with all wheel drive (4x4 or even 6x6).
Any one know of one for sale?

Dont suppose a prepared 110 with awning and roof-tent fits the bill then?

My 110 takes us where we want to go and we live in relative comfort...

Their are plenty of Volvo C303 TGB11 4x4/304 TGB13 6x6 and Pinzgauer 710 4x4/712 6x6 available in Europe at very good prices. The 6x6 versions of either are phenomenal being more capable off road and far more comfortable and do not tend to joggle about like 4x4 vehicles. This is partly due to the walking beam type rear Bogey. They both make excellent long distance touring off road vehicles. Just look at how many German expedition tourers use them, they tour most probably more than any other nation. Forward control vehicles are ideal because for the same length and the same wheel base the cargo areas are dramatically bigger than a normal or bonnet-ed controll vehicle. Their is loads of available space for stuff like additional fuel tank and water tanks. The only problem is that they are petrol powered. This would not matter in far away places such as North Africa and USSSR former states as fuel is cheap.

Their used to be a Frech site for which I had an address but unfortunatly they keep on changing the address every time I try to view it. By the time I have found it they are almost ready to change web addresses. This sit has all sorts of off road campers already sorted for long range excursions including desert camping and driving. Everything from posh Pinz, Unimog, Man etc etc. some are exceptionally well appointed some basic. If I find it I will post it.

That is a very good site but not the one that I was thinking about.

Any way this is a French Site with Pinzgauers for sale many of them converted for camping. Just use google to translate.
http://www.pinzgauer.fr/vends%20pinzgauer.htm

I appear to have lost the link that I was looking for or it has changed.

If he is looking for something smaller very comfortable, very capable of road but will still keep up on motorways then a VW syncro is the way to go.Just make sure it is one with twin diff locks.
There are many good examples available in Europe.
