hi, converted my v8 about 14 months ago with a 2nd hand kit from a 2.25, kit is voltran make, just wondering what a vapourizer to small would show up as? its always ran underpowered but its never been properly tuned etc just wondering wether the smaller vapourizer would show this. also does run better when timing is very advanced, know this is normal a bit advanced but im talking of the scale, doesnt seem to pink, could mixture be a bit lean? cheers mike

Could be. It's a miracle you got something secondhand off a completely diff engine to work in the 'satisfactory' range at all Or it could be something else altogether. Did you get a mixer(s) to suit the V8 or is that the wrong part too? that would probably have a bigger effect.
Also to add to the worry mix, older Voltran vaps aren't the most reliable I'm afraid.
cheers, Ross K

Vapourisers are usually sized for the power range they are designed to operate with. Fitting one from a lower power range than is suitable for your engine is akin to fitting a carburettor that is too small. The end result will be a lack of delivery and, therefore, a lack of power.

thanks for your replies , got another mixer with the kit, which was ok but now got some special su plate type ones. never actually found anything out about voltran but had wondered wether the vapouriser could have been same for v8 and 2.25, save on buying costs possibly. what are these omvl tandem jobbies like, someone sellin these, r30e, i think for 69 quid thinking of trying one of these

OMVL vaporisers have an excellent reputation. However it will still need to be set up properly. Nor will it overcome any limitations like wrong mixers, restrictive tank valves etc. You might consider having someone set it up rather than change parts at random.
