hi guys, can anyone set me straight on this one, this afternoon i was told that the use of veg oil when mixed with diesel is illegal and does not come under the customs 2500 ltr rules, in this i was told that i must run on 100% veg oil only, no using of diesel in any form , this was told to me by another angler that uses a diesel and was considering using veg, when he apparently rang customs regarding this he was told under no circumstances was veg oil and diesel to mixed in the same tank as he would be breaking the law

obviously with this in mind i would rather get the proof that this is the case without resorting to ringing customs as they then know who you are and you leave yourself open to a home visit

found this on the HM site, looks like you can

Can I use vegetable oil in my car if I mix it with normal diesel?
You can use vegetable oil in your car and mix it with diesel (vegetable oil is generally used as a substitute for diesel) but you will have to make arrangements to pay the excise duty to HMRC. See question 'How do I notify Revenue & Customs that I am using cooking oil in my vehicle?'.

Important Note: It is illegal to run your car on any fuel substitute without having first paid us the duty.

That link is back to a document dated October 2005.

They have changed interpretation since then and now class veg oil as a fuel, not a fuel substitute.

If you have any doubts about the legal use of oil - do not bother to do it, or contact HMRC (as I did) and get written confirmation that you are OK to do it.

Blends are not a problem as most Bio-Diesel is blended.

You are allowed 2500litres a year of Biomass fuel a year.

This is Veg oil (new or waste), Animal SPAM and Bio Diesel.

i agree with Nat , my veggie converted 100 % disco even purges the diesel back to the veg oil tank , h Laughing ence if mixing was illegal then the conversion kits would be duff.

use 2500 litres a year , its up to HMRC to dteremine whether you use a 5% blend or a 100 per cent blend between MOTs. ( mileage)

I can assure you that it is not illegal to use vegetable oil in your vehicle, and you can mix it in any percentage with normal diesel or biodiesel.

As Nat said, you can use up to 2500 litres per year, without paying any fuel duty on or vat. This was brought in by HMRC to reduce their costs of having to chase very small amounts of duty from very few people.

If this angler friend of your has actually been advised this and hasn't got his wires crossed, he has been hugely mis-advised.

still awaiting a reply from her maj`s customs, no doubt it wont come quickly, to be honest the way i have read into this i am legal mixing as i do, i will tell my angling friend to look further into it, possibly he spoke to them prior to the 2500ltr paperwork or possibly to someone in customs who in fact assumed and in fact does not know, now all i have to do is get her indoors to stop saying large chips and a tail end of cod when the fats ready every time i start the trak up Laughing

What a load of ********, I've had numerous emails from HMRC, as have many other people I know.

Were you asking them for the combination to the safe?

hi, can you clear up a couple of queries for me please as i am getting many differing opinions from other people
the way i read the latest documentation about using veg oil in addition to normal diesel is as long as i dont exceed the quoted 2500 ltrs in a year that i am not lible for duty on the svo nor am i by doing so breaking any laws, i am not a company nor am i selling this, it is for personal use only and i would rather be `within` the law than knowingly or unknowingly outside of it, i also need to keep i believe reciepts for any veg oil purchased, and keep a log of when used

many thanks mike

obviously there are some serious things to worry about here, like ooo i have given my name, oooo i have included my email address, obviously those two things are to be worried about as its not secure , obviously reading between the lines on my email you can see were i have openly asked for her personal phone number, her home address and bust size, and to add in my email address i have as you can see asked for details of how i can defraud her maj without getting any form of penalty, i can fully understand that if i had asked for or given say credit card details or similar that the warning of insecure mail would be something of worry, smacks more to me like oooo lets get his address and see if we cant impound his vehicle and see if we cant levy a huge fine while we are at it

bloody self abusers
