Brake pedal

Recently I have taken the brake air servo apart, as it was stuck in the downward position. After striping down the unit and cleaning it worked fine, but three weeks on its starting to becoming slow to return the brake pedal. Taking the master cylinder off the end of the unit is still does not return quickly.!! When the unit was apart the inside was slightly pitted. I can get a new set of seals for £100 but not sure if this will help. if the inside surface is rough. Does any one know if i polishing the inside will help. ? or has any one any good ideas?

Cheers
Graham

I have similar problems with slave cylinders. Was bidding on a set that had been coated on fleabay, but got sniped.

What did you do? ours are well beyond honing, they need filling as well.

I got a new seal kit from Southern Trailer parts which is in Reading tel:01189323577 part ref 462.007.0032 this was £47 pound.
Than spoke to lot of people about the coating and the advice from the manufactures was Zinc coating. Lucky mine was only slightly pitted so I get it sand blasted and sprayed with Zingard Liquid Anode. This was from Mailspeed Marine Tel:01925838858. this was not cheap but the cheaper stuff from B&Q and Screwfix is only a paint with zinc added. Read about it at http://www.mgduff.co.uk/zingard.html.

I think you could probably get away with filling the pitting and then honing and then sandblasting as recommended before sparing with the zingard.

Help this helps?

Cheers fella,

I was bidding on 4 coated cylinders and got sniped, rather annoying. I've bought two off Manfred at westfield 4x4, which should be here in a day or two.

I'm sure we'll have to get them done at some point - it's laying it up for 6 months a year that kills the brakes. Maybe when we have a roof it'll be OK.

cheers,

jim
