I have a 1993 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 that has been converted to LPG.....my question is this.....the 'live' wire for the LPG ECU has been spliced into the loom of the injectors - No. 5 - making the engine miss-fire on No. 5 Cyl. when on petrol ...........When running on LPG all is fine....I've been told by an LPG expert that that particular 'live' wire should be on the live of the ignition coil so when the key is turned the LPG ECU becomes 'energized'.......but I don't know which terminal on the coil is 'live'....can anyone help....???

Seen this before, its an awful way of doing it!

Does the wire in question need an ignition controlled live or an RPM sensitive feed to tell it to switch over at a certain revs.

the easiest way to ascertain power at a wire is to use a test lamp, Halfords or a motorfactors will have one for not many pennies.

what make is the lpg system most of them follow the same coulor coding on the wires but if its been attached to an injector live it must be a switched live whenever i convert a cherokee i put the switched live to the coil pack because u also need a rpm signal which comes off the coil negative ur best bet is to pull the plug off the coil and using a test lamp see which pin is live when u turn the ignition is on but u must have the coil unplugged otherwise they will both show a live also u will need a hand doing this as the pin only stays live for about 5 seconds if the engine is not started so by the time u get under the bonnet and probe the pins the feed will no longer be there most annoying when ur trying to sort somthing out lol hope that helps

It's a single point....OMVL Millennium........as far as I know it does.t use an RPM signal as from what you have described it can be manually turns over to gas whenever and started on gas..........I thought I would need to use a circuit tester.....but looking at the coil it looks like block connectors and not like a coil with terminals on it....but having said that I couldn't see it that well as the gas exchange is on top of it........so as the live feed is on the injector do you think that this would take away the voltage needed to open the injector? I've bought some other injectors with fuel rail that have been ultrasonically cleaned....only a few ££ of e-blag just incas....what are the chances of the injector failing where it has the feed coming off it?? Thank you very much guys for your help.........

omvl millenium is a lambda control feedback system there should be a stepper motor in the line that runs from the regulator big aluminium thing and the mixing ring usually fitted to the throttle body. the brown wire out of the omvl box should be connected to a coil negative which is the rpm signal but can also be wrapped tightly approx 10 times around a ht lead to pick up a rpm signal. now which ever wire is going to the petrol injector shouldnt be there the only thing that should be to the injectors is the wires that turn them off when the lpg system is in use. if they have connected the switched live to a injector live it will provide the lpg system a feed but this will sap the power from the injector the wire should be either a red or a red / black cant remember off the top of my head which it is but they may of extended it with another colour that wire needs to go to a switched live the easiest being the coil live usually. on the jeeps that have a distributor the coil is bolted to the engine on the drivers side just below the distributor and has 2 wires going to it in a plug plus the king lead which goes to the dizzy. some jeeps were fitted with a 1 coil per cylinder coil pack the plug for which is hard up against the bulkhead on the drivers side of the engine it is a bit of a pig to get to and there is a red plastic clip that u must remove before the plug can be removed this plug has many wires cant remember how many but one of them is a heavyer gauge than the others this is the live any of the others can be used for a rpm signal as they are negatives or triggers for the coils but be aware if u were to move the brown wire from where it is the millenium box may need re programming to accept the new rpm signal if its working fine its best left alone just move the switched live is ur best option. also if u remove the battery for any length of time the millenium box will need reprogramming.

Thanks....sorry didn't get back sooner.......I had it checked over when i needed an adjustment for the emissions.......i got the guy (who originally installed it) to check and make sure that it wasn't just running on default settings and all was OK.......he basically said what you have and so I now know for sure that the live needs to go on the coil and NOT on the injector!!! Thanks for all your help....It's good to know there are people willing to help without always trying to make money!! Thank you again

no problem fella any time somtimes there are things u can do without seeing the car but other times u just need to see it lol the pos wire will almost certainly be the thickest one to the coil but always check with the coil unplugged.

It's tosh that the Millennium would 'sap' power from a petrol injector if it's been correctly connected to the live feed side, bearing in mind that'll be a supply capable of 10A or more. If it did ... why wouldn't it sap power from the even more crucial coil circuit?!

More than likely it's just a crappy splice at that point giving a high resistance feed to that injector. In any case, changing the switched supply pick-up point as suggested should result in the crappy connection getting remade so that WILL get eliminated.

If the problem persists after that you may have a duff emulator.

Why didn't the guy who put it in, and agrees that way isn't best practice, put it right for you ?!

cheers, Ross K

TOSS ? ive seen it a few times on lpg conversions done at home although never by a so called professional its not likely to be a bad joint because a bad joint would affect the lpg system running if it was making and breaking. its more likely that the wire has been put to the neg side of the injector which when plugged in would also show a live with a milti meter or test lamp if it is in the neg side this will effect the resistance going back to the ecu and cause a missfire without seeing the car its difficult to say but i have seen many problems like this before bearing in mind weve been doing conversions here for nearly 20 years.
