Been keeping my eye open for a 24V winch and a hydraulic winch, but only for the right money.
I still want a "proper" hydraulic winch, but bought this at the weekend;
Good money, refurbished, looks and sounds great. Just starting to make a mount for it.
Other stuff I've been doing
making the frame for tool boxes and a HIAB mount
And playing (weeks ago) at buildwas
Later

Yeah, it's silly - it's a two way switch, but only works one way (right).
The solenoid pack is going somewhere else.
cheers,
jim

Nope, but it was aldi money!
We'll see how it does, 12,000lb is plenty for my thing, and since I've never had a winch before, it'll be useful to learn what I like and what I don't.
As a minimal risk way of testing it, we're going to drag spares mog around and over things with it.
catch you soon,
jim

Starting to get a mount made up for it. It's like scrapheap challenge - quick wander round the farm and there's a pre bent bit of 6mm steel over there and a couple of chunks of 10mm thick bar over there and so on.
I only ever have to buy bolts and grinding discs!
There's a silly little red switch on the box, which I said only worked in one of it's two directions. Anyway, we opened it up and it appears to have the receiving end of a radio control setup - when you switch it the other way. The solenoid pack is pretty solid as well. Take the wire, fairlead, selenoids and hook off, the winch probably stands me at £30!

Fitted!
It's a three way mount - two bolts either side at the back and a hidden tab at the front that bolts to a tab welded to the back of the bumper. All seems good.
Did some winching
Now, although it looks like we're winching it downhill, we're not. It's just been pulled up a step from a hill.
Now all we need is that alternator.......

What you need when winding a cable in is something heavy to keep it tight..........I find that a stuck landrover does the job OK!

I've actually finished the mount now, it was missing a bit of reinforcement.
With a tab bolted to the bumper at the front, and two chassis mounts at the front, it's a three way mount, and should give a little with the chassis.
