I haven't personally, but I know a mechanic who's in to his American and jeep stuff therefore has his own small LPG storage tank, but before he used an electric pump to get the gas from calor bottles to his tank (when used off road ofcourse) and offered it to me for sale and said that it works fine..........I declined but then thought about it and have started looking around for pumps especially on e-bay, for ease it'll have to be electric but a hand pump still works, and I worked it out to be the equivalent of a bout 26 ppl.....depending on what outlet you get the bottle from.

I use one of these pumps on a regular basis (only to fill my off road vehicle obviously!!! ahem!!) They are superb pieces of kit and save me an absolute fortune!
What is it you wanted to know about them?

i have enquired about buying lpg canisters but they all seem to be £50 plus for approx 90 litre making it dearer than forecourt, also I've been advised not to run pump dry ie letting canister empty out but have a digital gauge on car so can't tell how much i've put in without starting engine so how have you set yours up twin bottles with gauges fitted etc

any advice much appreciated

Blimey - where are you buying your gas?? are you getting it shipped from Australia lol!!
Through various sources i can buy a 47kg propane bottle at about £20 and i'm sure with a bit of research you could find a local supplier for around the £25 mark - there is 94 litres in a 47kg bottle so at this price it doesn't take a lot of working out - i can fill my 80 litre tank (to 64 litres due to the 80% fill ratio) for 13.70ish and get 195 miles - probably more if i were to sort the system properly (but i work on the 'dont fix what aint broke' theory and, currently, it works!!!)
As for filling, i pump the liquid in till you start to get big bubbles through the clear fill hose that i put in between the bottle and the pump (instead of the orange pipe) and then turn the pump off - you would never run the pump too dry unless you really weren't watching!!!

As Regards to filling an on road vehicle with a fuel that has no road Duty on it I would be careful what you are saying.
Doing this without paying the road Duty is illegal.

This is a Public forum and bascally you are admitting Tax Evasion - if HMR&C Catch you you'll have to give them LOTS of money....

Just a word of warning that your words can be read by the whole world....

do apologize but i did not think it was illegal to think about doing something rather than actually doing and i did not realize you could be guilty for thinking something that you have not actually done appreciate you're comments but i still have not got an answer to my original question am i right in thinking it is all right to put LPG from propane canisters but not road legal vehicles many thanks mike

Thinking about it is is legal but there are people here saying they do it. Nat is not telling you off or saying don;t do it but just be aware that using any fuel on road without paying duty and VAT is illegal. Like you didn't know anyway.
