But some bizarre/draconian rules about fuel cans here, not sure how true they are, or if anyone has time to enforce them;
http://www.travel-spot.co.uk/Countries/uk.htm
Belgium; - A maximum of 10 litres of spare fuel may be carried in an approved can.
Italy;- The carrying of spare fuel cans is illegal.
Spain; - It is also an offence to carry spare fuel in your vehicle.
- It is also an offence if your vehicle is immobilised because it ran out of petrol. (typical Spanish!)
Switzerland; - A maximum of 25 litres of spare fuel may be imported and carried in an approved can.
How true are these? And is it anything to worry about?
Cheers, Mark

More likely to get pulled up on the boat getting to the countries in question. It is illegal to carry any fuel on a ferry - you are only legally permitted to carry enough fuel in the vehicles tank to get you on and off the ferry!

you can not carry fuel cans on the rear door we have never had problems with carrying spare fuel on the roof or inside the truck in any of the countries you mention
