|
|

Hi.
i went into my local asda last night and i was upset that the store has increased the cost of veg oil from 57 pence per litre to 70! this has made a 15 litre drum increase by about £2!
Thats a 20% incrrease overnight.
I know thats still 38 pence per litre cheaper than diesel from the pump, but it seems like greed to me.
Does anyone know of a good supplier of veg oil?? in near leeds, west yorkshire.
i intend to question the manager officially over their price increase and challenge the justification of such an increase, and possibly follow by a boycot.
has anybody else experianced this?
thanks
chris

Yeah, it hardly seems risking the seals in your IP for such a small saving.
If you were saving £400 or more per year the reward outweighs the risk and even if you need to replace the pump or the odd injector every couple of years, you're still quids in, but at this rate veg oil will be the same price as diesel...........
.......and there isn't enough used stuff to go round anymore
I suspect this thread will get moved to Alternative fuels section.

Its not really all the supermarkets greed, everywhere has seen a large increase, the price of veg is high at the moment because of a poor harvest.
I paid 67ppl in Makro the other day...
There is some boys at Elvington Near York doing rapeseed for 53ppl.
ExRhino, what do you mean risking IP Seals?
You're more likely to Seize a Lucas IP or Gum up your piston rings with improper use...

Nat, mines a nippon denso pump, the main issue is softening of the seals (apparently) I haven't had any probs yet.
I'm saying that with one hand touching my wooden desk.

Never seen it for sale up in Aberdeenshire, anyone know differently?
At 65 litres per week, saving (even) 40p per litre, means I'd be better off by £1352 a year... give me some of that!

As Nat said, it isn't just the supermarkets being greedy, the price of veg oil has gone up across the board, and veg oil sold for cooking with goes through a more stringent process than veg oil sold for the bio industry, and is therefore more expensive. More and more people are buying veg oil to run in there vehicles, and the supply and demand inherently has an effect on the price. I would suspect that complaining to the supermarket manager would have no effect at all.
Biodiesel producers, such as ourselves, are also feeling the pinch as the prices have risen astronomically for wvo, svo such as rme and the chemicals required to make biodiesel (plus road fuel duty and vat has to be paid! ). I can foresee that most biodiesel producers will be regularly increasing their price per litre to cover their costs.
The days of being able to run your vehicle cheaply on veg oil are fast disappearing.

dont forget the oil has to be delivered to bottling plant or whatever and haulage firms run diesel ..
as diesel goes up price of delivery goes up someone gonna have to pay the shortfall .....

You need to take your own 45gall drum/IBC...
I think I'm gonna go and get 400L soon.
Got some people wanting oil so will consider selling it on at 60ppl... undercutting the supermarkets nicely!

Why only Rape? I know its often the cheapest but Sunflower has a lower gelling point, better for this time of year, Palm oil is fine as is groundnut and most other cooking oils!
Oolive oil can work out quite expensive at £12 per litre tho!

due to the floods over summer (and other factors such as fuel prices) there has been an extremely poor harvest this year which has affected wholesale prices..
therefore demand is at an all time high - mainly from the food industry.
you would not believe the quantity of oil used in the manufacture of margarine and how many foods that have veg oil as a primary ingredient,
marg has gone up by 20% in the shops as well, not that most people would notice something like that.
just another example of food prices increasing and base line inflation about to skyrocket.
