Hi all,

For those running a twin tank system on a 300tdi disco, roughly how long does it take for the temp to be high enough to safely swap from diesel to veg oil and do you have a heat exchanger. Still trying to decide whether to go the twin tank route or make biodiesel. The 1.5 mile trip to work would have to be done on diesel along with most other trips during the week. The only time I can see me swapping over to veg oil is during laning trips, getting to archery comps and the 190mile trips to London every 6-8 weeks but could be more often if I get the cost down.

If you are doing a lot of running about on diesel then its my advice to fit as big a diesel tank in the back as you can manage.

at least 30L, as it'll use loads and you'll be forever filling up!

I have a coolant heated flat plate heat ex and I switch over when the temp gauge is nearing where it normally sits wich is about 80*c coolant temp.

Unless its a lucas pump (and it isn't) then your switchover temp doesn't need to be too accurate, so as long as the engine is at least warm enough to have brought the heat ex into play and the pistons and head are no longer cold!

HTH
