Hey all
Just thought id post up some pics of my coil changing escapades.
Ive seen heaps of different methods, most involving coil compressors, some say to remove the whole hub unit & drive shafts, brakes etc...
It just seemed overly complicated so I thought id do it the good old aussie way, without the correct tools or knowhow.
Mine involved jacking the lower wishbone, undoing the lower ball joint completely and loosening the top.
Undo shock.
Undo sway bar.
Lower jack and boing!
Putting the new springs in was the reverse but I found the whole car rose up before the spring compressed enough to rejoin the lower ball joint.
Then I saw my pile of tyres....
Hope this is useful to someone!
Ash

Good work, Ash... But next time remember this: There's two 10 mm bolts that hold the brake caliper to the steering knuckle, if you remove these bolts the whole assembly will come out and you won't be needing to strip it into little pieces...

Of course, this doesn't apply if you're changing the pads too

I always use a very similar method. Never found clamps work on Nivas and this is easier and quicker.

Seem to remember from years gone by that the most effective tool was a standard jemmy welded into a 6foot length of scaffold. built for another purpose this worked perfectly ok with new std springs. Just let the axle/hub drop and levered hard.Biggest problem was keeping the vehicle on the stands.

Ever thought of using 8mm threaded bar in the top balljoint in place of the three bolts that hold the joint to the arm to pull the suspension together??
