What do you reckon will be cheaper to run with LPg at 50p and diesel a quid?
a) 3.9efi disco '99. LPG kits fitted was told but forgatten wot make but I remember researching and it was as good as it gets 3 grand + to fit buy landrover/lpg setup. Auto box.
b) Tdi disco. Plenty out there. but prob about M plate to be same cost as above. My old man gets a regular 30mpg and i reckon I can do the same.
I am fairly gentle with the throttle, after all we have a 70 limit and I hate t*** who exceed it. (It is a silly law but thats wot we have.)
So LPG is half the price but does that add up to the same as the diesel. What do you think?

Don't know about Landies but my LPG Maverick is cheaper to run than a TDi version. LPG shouldn't be costing 50p/L more like 42 or 43 in some areas it's still under 40p, even the very worst places are only about 50p. LPG is less than half the price of diesel or petrol and you get fractionally less mpg than you would on petrol so it's about half the price to run or less. So the diesel has to do twice the mpg, but even if it can it won't be half as much fun or sound have as good either.
Best check that LPG is readily available where you are and anywhere you go regularly - other than that LPG all the way.

Purely on fuel cost this is a very close call.
The Tdi engine was built for economy and will return somewhere in the region of twice the mpg. The exact ratio will depend on your mix of driving becasue diesels don't take as much of an efficiency hit as spark ignition engines at partial throttle settings; this means that if you drive a lot at low speeds the diesel will be relatively even better.
My 300Tdi Defender 110 manages 34mpg (average over nearly 20k miles), I can get 37mpg+ on a single run on a warm day, but I tend to drive at truck speed on dual carriageways (60mph). The smaller and more aerodynamically shaped Disco should be capable of doing better, unless you drive faster.
In the long term, I feel LPG is likely to loose some of its tax advantage becasue it is still a fossil fuel and although it has a clean burn it still produces more CO2 per mile than diesel. The tax advantage was given to encourage the use of a clean burn fuel whereas emphasis has now changed to minimising CO2.
But then there is that V8 soundtrack.

I tend to bumble along as i hate speeders andit does me good to p them off. just found that the proposed buy has seqeuntial injection kit. Or something like that.
yep around here LPg is 49.9 whereas unleaded is 98.9 and derv 99.9.
still fancy it partly as i will be moving from a 90 with half flat muds and a low range box to a disco set up properly

One thing that's not usually mentioned in LPG vs Diesel debates is range and space.
Derv and LPG may work out at similar prices per mile, but a diesel vehicle will go twice[ish] as far per fill up.
There's also the issue of fitting the LPG tank in somewhere and potentially losing valuable space.
My tuppence worth.
Pete.

The lpg will be cheaper to run , and sequential is top of the heap for efficiency , the only downside with lpg is the original conversion cost.
You do lose a bit of space with the lpg tank unless its got sill tanks or fuel tank replacement.
The other thing is you have the V8 and its so quiet compared with an oil burner. plus the power delivery. JMHO

Another thing to bear in mind is petrol cost even when on LPG if you want to factor in everything.
My 4.0 Jeep used around £12 petrol to every £80 of LPG. Each run is about 40 miles from cold.

Regional prices differ greatly. Dino-diesel varies from 99.9ppl to £1.09ppl. I heard of dino-diesel at £1.15ppl in Lincolnshire!
