just had a phone call that my sons 90 has a terminal engine problem. What is a reasonable price to pay for a 200 tdi engine?

also rear diff has collapsed.

You're better off buying a Cheap Disco for its engine, TDI's seem to go for HUGE money yet Disco's are cheap as chips.

Will the diff from a disco fit a 90?

If I recall the turbo position is different for Defender 200Tdi as opposed to the Disco 200Tdi. It would be worth checking if this is so and what is involved in changing it's position if that is needed.

What is 'terminally' wrong with your son's engine?

buy a 200 tdi disco as suggested and use the manifold and turbo from the defender set up which you already have , unless thats whats knackered. should bolt straight on ! Diff should be same as 90 , but they are so cheap about 40 quid i wouldnt worry...

Terrence Some of the Diffs in Disco;s are 24 Spline Defenders depending on Model had 10 splines - worth pulling a shaft on the defender to check.

I agree I'd rather have a 24 Spline diff than a 10 - You could swap the axles that would give you 24's off of the disco

I know of a 94 Disco 300TDI selling complete although the chassis is beyond repair and has no MOT with a good engine for £700

Hi Colin.

Sorry about the woes.

If it is any help then I have:

R380 with <50K on it...has busted/bent output shaft, maybe you can use it to rebuild Team Chaos Disco 'box.

R380 with worn output shaft from a pre-modified oil feed Disco ('95/'96 model)

110 Salisbury axle, drum braked, good diff.

LT230 t/box, has broken fixing lugs.

Yours if you want to collect.
