Manos,
Thanks for the pictures.
Been looking at one of your earlier posts about the knuckle arms and, yes, that's what I tried with mine. Fine in a straight line, but very skittish on the corners! If you look at the arms closely, the bottoms are arched to fit over the inner bit of the hub, but the tops aren't, so they would need grinding out to fit properly. The arm itself also is angled, not horizontal, and that reverses when it is turned upside down. I don't know whether that affects the steering geometry?
Once the anti-roll bar is sorted, the standard arrangement is fine, but, if you lift it much higher, then you will have to consider altering the trackrod/knuckle alignment.
Regards,

had the same on my niva |
My tyres treads are slightly imbalanced, the fronts are quite a roady tread, made by Nokian. The rears are new and came from Alan Bird at Lada UK, I would describe them as the standard Niva tyre a bit of a AT job. They definitly don't help the handling, I suppose I could put them on the front to see what effect that has on the handling and to get a better feel for what's causing the exciting handling, tyres or lack of sway bar.

I believe John's was a lot better after we swapped them front to rear. Try it and see what happens. If you've got a combination of road tread and AT or MT tread, put the road tread at the back - same principle as radial at rear, crossply at front.

I had Trayal 175/16s up front, and Russain knobblies on the rear and changing lanes on the motorway was entertaining to point ofbeing very bad.
swapped them round and made it a lot better. Fronts then lost grip in heavy cornering i.e wet roundabouts.

Moral is: Dont mix tyres, I would imagine its a lot better to have all the same pattern on all four corners.
Agree with Hoodoo having mixed tyres will be a little like mixing crossplies with radials.
In this case Road - Rear
Terrains - to the Front

Went to Excossack's today to have a look at his Niva, which has the lift kit and retains the anti-roll bar. Thanks to information from Manos, we had a good idea what to look for, and this is what we found:
The trackrod, on full lock, slides over the anti-roll bar just before the end mount, then locks down behind it, resting on top of the lip of the spring seat.
We moved the anti-roll bar mount to below the bracket, as detailed in a previous post, then cut approx 10mm off the top of the lip on the spring seat.
The trackrod now moves to its full extent on both sides of the vehicle, with plenty of clearance between it and anything else. We think this should resolve the problem, and John will be posting photos of the job we did.
One thing we found was that, on his single point 1.7, and presumably the 1.6, the trackrod end passes over the lip of the spring seat, whereas, on my sequential injection 1.7, the trackrod end goes nowhere near the spring seat, coming to rest behind, and well clear, of it. There must be different components in use here, but we didn't have time to check this out.
So, my advice to Niva owners with this kit fitted who have anti-roll bars still in place, is to follow this post and the photos, and to those without roll bars, grind down the height of the spring seat lip over which the rod end passes by approx. 10mm to ensure full clearance.
My thanks to Manos and Excossack for all their help and assistance.
Regards,

Interesting thread, and also very useful. I am in before of installing the lifting kit, so I will re-read several times again...
Manos, what software have you used for filling with colors the above drawings?
