What kind of engine can i swap into my niva?

i know ab out the 2,0 fiat engine ..and 1.9(t)d peugeot .. but i have heard that ford mondeo and mercedes 240d will fit .does anyone have some more info about that conversion?

1990 Lada Niva

By all accounts the Fiat swap is the easiest - check out Cloggy's conversion page at http://baxdesign.cabspace.com/NivaMainPage.htm.
It has a good almost step-by-step guide of how to do it and what to watch out for.


Other than the factory diesel, there were some custom conversions for Toyota, Nissan, and VW diesels. The either have an adapter to attach to the Lada's 'box or use their own 'boxes adapted to fit on on the Niva's TC.
If you can get the bits from a wrecked diesel Niva that would make that swap easier. Just like a big kitset really. Smile

Have a look at www.craplada.co.uk He was going to fit a Mercedes diesel unit, but I don't know if he ever did.
