|
|
|
Ive been thinking about doing this mod to my niva for a while now and what just seeing what do you think is the best way of going about this?
does anyone have any pics of there 1.7i niva with snorkels? so i can get a good idea of how to go about doing it
also what would you do with the sensor which is in the air filter? as i take it this would all be removed when you fit the snorkel, i was thinking along the lines of fitting an induction kit, and then just extending that as it were out of the bonnet
cheers,
Tim

Alternately, you can cut the hole in your bonnet instead of the scuttle if your local authorities frown on the modification of structural members as they do here in NZ.

Cheers Gav for the link! i was thinking about doing that but the only problem being is that my air filter box has more holes in it than a rusty bucket so i dunno how well it would be at holding water back
i quite like this idea (half way down).... http://forum.difflock.com/viewtopic.php?t=9494&...hlight=tupperware
how easy do u think that would be to mod for a 1.7i?

Tim,
Yours is most likely a TBi (single-point). The throttle body used is identical to that use in nearly all late 80's and early 90's Vauxhalls/Opels and the early Daewoos. Have a look round a scrap yard or two for a housing that suits better than the Lada air filter box. They all have the air temp sensor in the air intake somewhere so it shouldn't be a problem.
Check my website for my cheap and cheerful snorkel.

after finally getting my butt in gear i got around to building the snorkel for the niva, and i think it turned out pretty well, cost me £30 to build it which i didn’t think was too much
The pipe is all made from drain pipe and air intakes from cars taken from a scrap yard i think all the flexi pipe came from Peugeot 306's
Just need to block up a few holes with some sealant and it should be done, might get around to painting the top black aswel
Did use quite a few jubilee clips to hold it all together :
i think all the pipes are around 54mm,
cheers,
Tim

Similar to mine but you went through the windscreen panel which i should of done.
Top job.
Now if your tempted to go up to bonnet make sure all your joints are siliconed and the lid to your air filter..

Don't forget to waterproof the ignition system.
When you are up to it please post us some pix of it going for a 'drink'.

will do mate, still got some work to go yet before i can take it out for a drink!
going to fit some breathers on it next, and also thinking of fitting some sort of snorkel on the heather air intake, last time i went through a deep puddle i got very wet and muddy feet!
what do you reckon the easiest way is to waterproof the ignition system?
cheers,
Tim
