I had a van slam it's brakes on in front of me today on my way to work.
I did the same but was hit up the rear by an old boy in another van.
The result was me being pushed at an angle and then losing control.
The car slewed towards the central res. barriers and I thought "This is gonna be big" then it gripped and because I had left lock on it straightened up and shot left but this time went over onto to it's offside before rolling onto it's roof and skidding backwards to a stop.
Luckily I ended up on the slip road.
I don't mind saying that I was really scared about crawling out in case a car flattened me but there was no other way out.
The van that slammed it's brakes on never stopped.
Anyway, here are the pics of my dead bus:
Sorry about the quality but it was on my phone and I was shaking like a Yorkie Terrier having an somewhat oversize poo.
The last pic is the paint from the van that tagged me.
I have severe whiplash and a couple of damaged ribs though I thought the doc was tripping about the ribs then I coughed about an hour ago and then had to agree with her! How do they know??

ouch. Glad you are more or less OK.
So will it be a new car or a rebuild?

Hi,
Anyway you can blame the van in front? Lets face it, he's already lost his NCB.
Make sure he doesn't blame you, coz there ain't nobody else to blame.

Ed, I don't have the time anymore to even think about it.
I will be looking for something else as long as it runs on veg oil.
Early thoughts are a MB E class 3.0L turbot diesel auto estate or possibly a Disco 300Tdi if it is tidy enough and has an auto box.
Just got to break the news to my little girl, she adores that car.
John, the van in front didn't get hit by me, I managed to outbrake him, I was hit by the white van you see in one of the pics.

Blimey
Glad you are OK. Did the van that hit you stop? It will be him to blame for being too close to you.
Paul.

What happened was that there was a van in front of me that slammed his brakes on.
I did likewise but was collected by the white Ford Transit Connect that you can see in the first pic.
I didn't get a look or any pics of the front of his but a colleague that came to pick me up said it was a mess.
The last pic is of my nearside rear corner.
That's where I was tagged.
That sent me to the right.
I ended up facing the central res. barriers but managed to get it to straighten up and didn't hit them.
When I got it straight it shot left (with the lock applied) and I was to slow to counter this and it then flipped onto the offside and then the roof.
The noise was outrageous!

Best,

Glad you're OK Mikeyboy. Looking at the damage it could have been a lot worse.
Ironically you would probably have done less damage if you had hit the barriers and they worked as they should.

I have thoughts about hitting the barriers.
That would have presented the drivers side to the oncoming traffic.
I have just broke the news to me 9 year old.
She wants to say something so the next bit is being typed by her.
She is a bit upset so bear with her...
i really was upset about joey when i came home.I wondered where joey was when i came home because i was told dad was sick.
thank you difflock from Cora.
...Me again.
Now I am steeling myself for the laugh that will be the insurance offer.
Still, could have been worse.

Cora:
there is a large empty space left on the drive.
...Mikeyboy again.
Thanks Ian.
She has stopped balling her eyes out now.
I have some more pics of the Joe-ster in the recovery yard.
I will post them on another post.

BTW, it is ok to mention T-cut!

The bodywork on a 90/110 is shockingly weak in a flip over, roll cages should be mandatory cause your passenger wouldn't have got out of that one.
Glad your ok though,glad i didn't by the missus a 110 now.

Agreed.
I saw Terence McKibbens roll pics and thought about roll bars...the cage saved his bacon, no two ways.
I was very lucky.
A passenger would have been badly hurt.
The feds and the paramedics were very surprised that I was in such good shape.
It was fast and it was very violent.
My boss rang me and said that work will give me a Passat until I get sorted with some wheels. That was a nice feeling.
They also told me to take tomorrow off but I will see how I feel.
I may tow in.
My wife is treating me to a compensatory Madras. ACE!
Ed, the engine and transmission are sound.
That thing will (did!) pull to 95MPH.
The chassis looked at bit twisted TBH. But I can't be sure.

I'm glad you are not badly hurt. You must feel relieved there was no passenger - that side looks a lot worse.
Having seen Terence McKibben's vehicle and now yours I'm certainly giving some for of cage or at least a roll hoop some consideration. I bet yours is still drivable though.

OK ... It only needs a high lift to straighten it up a bit and then some T-cut.
And a message for Cora:
Don't give up; once you have owned a LR it's impossible to get it out of your system. You keep working on him and make sure he gets another.

That's a nasty mess right there, such a shame, but good to hear that you're still alive and kicking (if not coughing quite yet!)
That looks very much like my mates 110 did after he flipped it at 40 on a country road, he wasn't so lucky though. Crushed arm broken in several places and cut where it went through the window, concussion, girlfriend with brain damage that was nearly terminal, other 4 in the car were a bit bruised. He and his mrs were wearing seatbelts, the other 4 weren't and walked away.
As people say, they do fold then they go over.

Hell!!
I'm glad you're ok Mikey.
IMO I would be buying that back and rebuilding it, or breaking it.
It doesn't actually look tooo bad in terms of repair.

Mikiey i have just seen this and had to show Mims straight away.
I have to say we are both deeply shocked and even dare i say lost for words. We are both glad you walked away from what looks like something that you shouldnt of. Some one must of been looking after you on that one.
It still amazes me that the drivers side stayed intact a fact we are both glad of. Hope the Madras helps a speedy recovery and you are feeling well again soon.
Wavey 'state of shock' Dave

Glad you walked away from such a terrible accident. That roof has collapsed really badly. If i had a 90/110 i would be making a cage for it right now. I would buy it back off your insurance company if you can. You will get more for it if you break it or put it back on the road.

That was a big one.
Looking at the damage I would say new front bulk head, roof, all five doors and sort the interior out, the rear tub looks to escaped major damage as have the wings, bonnet and rad.
As it looks like you only did 180 the oily metal whizzy round bits should have been ok. You may need near front bulkhead outriggers if the loading has been transmitted down through the bulk head as well.
I would definitely consider a by back.

I would be tempted to buy it back if they offered it for a grand.
That is all it is worth when broken at the minute.
Also I could only repair it if work would let me park it in the back of the loading bay.
They are normally tolerant of my activities but we'll see.

If you need any help given my recent experience of a similar debacle PM me.

buy it back
a couple of weekend work and it'll be right as rain again.
and then buy an internal roll hoop to keep you and passengers safe,
this is how i bought my 90, not as bad as yours due to the roof rack holding it all together and it was much slower, but the panels replaced looks simillar to the sort of replacement you will be needing.
one weekend of grafting with the missus and it was fully road ready again. got all the panels second hand at langley farm for less than £500, worked out to be a very very cheap 90,
in your case, you would get a reasonably payout and it wouldnt cost a right lot to fix - bet you'd be quids in so you can buy some right nice goodies for it, eg a roll hoop and lockers etc!
glad to hear you are ok and having seen the state of it, i am so glad i got a safety devices chassis mounted hoop - NOT made from scaff pole (for the zookie viewers! )

Too true. The stats are here:

Glad you came out of that relatively unscathed. It must have been a frightening episode.
Note to self: Get the roll-bar fitted ASAP!
