Hello, my mates Cherry has failed the MOT on the offside ball joint.

The garage didn't want to do the job and a mobile mechanic back heeled it saying that it is pressed in and needs to be pressed out.

He also said that he has known them break 100 ton presses if they are really stuck.

I did not believe this and told my mate that we will have a pop at it.

He has the part, I just wondered if any of you guys have done this and is it really that much of a nightmare?

Any help is gratefully received.

I will try to get some pics of it.

Meanwhile I have told my mate to keep it soaked with releasing oil.

Thanks.

Mike - do you mean the ball joint on the tie/drag rod end?

If so then it is a git of a job and usually isn't worth the hassle. Over here the whole tie rod (or just the joint at the adjusting end) is replaced.

Works out cheaper as well when the cost of labor is worked in.

Simon 'usually is on a different page to everyone else though' Owen.

Hi, it is the upper ball joint on the main wheel hub and it does look like a ****** to do.

We are going to have a crack at it in loading bay at work tomorrow.

I'll let you know how we get on.
