Some good news, some not so good. This has been the first dry day since she arrived so I got out with a wire brush and started cleaning all the crap off her.
First of all, the plate under the bonnet with chassis numbers etc is present but the chassis number doesn't seem to tie in with the format described in the tech literature I've got (i.e. starting with model number 404.114 etc etc).
Here's what I've got that's legible:
Versorgungsnummer: 2320-12-1201500
Chassis: 750 0913
Besamtgewicht: 4750
Achslast vorn: 2500
It's got 1957 stamped on it below the chassis number and 2500 below that.
Any ideas?
And the good news is that it would appear I do have the M180 after all, even though the log book says it's 2499cc. I thought I'd ended up with a non standard engine but there's a plate on the left hand side of the block with M180 II 0 on it and the motor number.
I'll get some pics up over the weekend hopefully.
And I need a name, any suggestions welcome...!
Cheers

My memory returns slightly and suggests they changed the numbering scheme at somepoint
Can't remember where I saw that. This page
http://www.rockymountainmoggers.com/unimogmodels.html (at bottom)
suggests that serial 2500 was made in 1957, so that could be it - or not.
The mog mailing list may help more. Have you found the chassis number on the actual chassis?

chassis number is right near the passengers side shocker mount, this is deeply stamped on, and can only be removed by dodgy dealings, this starts with 404,,,,,,,,,,,,,

It can be hard to find - we didn't think we had one and had to flatten the paint off to see it.
Mot next week......

it is behind the shocker, in between the spring mount and shocker mount, looking at the chassis though it should be rather hard to find

Cheers, I got a wire brush so am going to attack the paint/rust tonight.
Met a guy last night who has just sold his rolling chassis and got the radiator, 2x wiper motors, voltage regulator, coil, starter motor, dizzy, carb, hand throttle, choke cable and pusher, all the gauges and all the switches for fifty quid. In good nick too so I'm opretty pleased with myself...
Anyone know if the carb from an M130 is the same as from the M180?
Cheers

I think M130 might be dual carb?
