The CDL seems to have reappeared on the very last TD5s, I have an 04 facelifted one and it has it, along with the auto box.
I like it a lot, but I'm not as attached to it as I was to my old tdi300 ... |

Thrust bearing noise should change or disappear if you dip the clutch, but won't change with clutch up in neutral. Also you'll hear it when stationary as well as on the move.

Fairly standard Disco 300 is a daily drive, also go green laning in it and use green lanes as short cuts.
