It really depends n the shocks rather than the springs, if the shocks allow the axle to drop by more than an additional 2" then you will need the spacer. Even if its not essential it will correct ...

I don't have the Calmini recommended offset but I don't have any issues. I have heard that some Canadian built models have problems.

I would replace them all with LEDs and use an LED rated flasher unit, otherwise you will need to add resistors to the rear lights to increase the load.

Fettling will be required, the bolt pattern is different and one uses studs, the other bolts, I forget which is which. Its not that difficult though

Given that you've run it dry a new fuel filter would be a good start. Is it an EFI model? if so then the next step would be to check the pump.
