I saw a cunning arrangement that used two aluminium poles and a canvas that looked like a stretcher and rolled away nice and tidy, single beds though!

Hi,
That is a YJ Wrangler, it followed the CJ7 from 1986 onwards.

In the US they called it the YJ - Yuppie Jeep or a wrongler because they thought the square headlights were all wrong.

you can get a new 4500lb winch for under £200 and they weigh about 16kg

food for thought - before you go and spend £500 and add 40kg to the bumper!

You can pick up a Lada in france pretty easily as the were made there under liscence up until recently.

Also the price has fallen out of wranglers and they are infinately modable.

The bad news is thease are only a main dealer or breaker part. So are really expensive. They do come up on ebay now and again for about £40 if you are lucky.
