Re the backlash. I have never known the backlash to be caused by the autobox, it is normally the transfer case, diffs and props.

Nah, pre 88 RRC's have very little in the way of leccy goodies. My 83 has only 3 fuses and nothing is electric apart from the lights and wipers!

Buy and older RRC, and love it like me.
